We have been listening to NM music since the late 60\'s. Most of the raza from the San Luis Valley haverelatives that came from northern New Mexico. Our\'s came from Questa, Cerro, andTierra Amarilla. We were happy when we got 99.1 here to listen to NM music every day of the week. We plan on going to the awards next year as this years tickets were sold out. Keep up the good work.

I currently DJ @ our local radio station KRZA, and am proud to say that I have had the oppurtunity to intruduce to the listeners some great New Mexico music on my show. I encourage the youth to persue the musical talent that God has given them. Keep the hispano heritage in music alive. On my Tuesday night show, nothing but New Mexico music. I would encourage all the young artists as the older ones also to have live radio interviews, so the public listeners know who they are. We do them here @ KRZA. All in all I would personally like to thank the past and present NMHMA staff for all they have done to keep our tradition and heritage alive. Although there will always be glitches (problems) in any event that is prepaired for but gets better every year. Good luck to all the artists who are up for awards this year on Jan 18. God Bless!!!!

I love see the few youth artists compete. I think for their efforts they are all winners and the remaining ones that are not chosen for the artist of the year should receive a smaller trophy as well. Afterall these young ones are our future and will be the ones to keep northern NM music alive... hope to see this for 2014

First off i noticed a lot of comments about how the awards are supposedly rigged and winners are based on donations or politics. Id like to point out that first decisions based on donations is illegal and second from what i understand the winners are chosen by the musicians and members of the association. The awards are an awesome way to recognizing brilliant musicians (new or old) but regadless of an award its about the culture and the love for the music. We have a very unique styles of music that comes from generations of blending different musical styles into our own and adding our language makes it that much more worthwhile. We should be supporting all New Mexican musicians because their music carries our culture for future generations with every word, every note, and every grito.

Let me start off by commending everyone that was involved in putting on such a great show! You all devote your time, your efforts and ideas into a show for all of us who enjoy NM Music, NM musicians, and one of the biggest events held in northern NM that show off New Mexico\'s talent. The winning of an award shouldn\'t represent what this show is about! It\'s about getting great artists together, and showing off the talent that is out there. I\'m certain not every one is going to be in agreement of who they think should\'ve won in each category, nor do most of us understand how they are chosen, but we should be supportive of those that did win! Congratulations to all the winners! You all deserved to be up on that stage winning those awards! Maybe it\'ll just push those that didn\'t win to try harder for next year! Again, GREAT JOB to EVERYONE involved with putting on such an entertaining show! I definitely will be back next year! Que Viva La Musica Nuevo Mexicana!!

This years awards were great! All the performance were amazing. I was a little disappointed however; that the award winners seemed to be rigged. All the musicians involved are extremely talented, but it seemed like the politics got the best of the show. Its a shame when people have a particular last name or pull they seem to win although the awards- even when they are unknown brand new artists. I feel everyone deserves to win but of course only one can win. Its just sad when everyone in the crowd is mumbling \"what?\", \"who?\", and \"again\". But the production was amazing and the all the people involved did a great job to put an amazing show together, just hope that the politics get the door in years to come.

How much did the Cordova family donate again this year? Why even hold the awards ceremony, just send them the awards from the beginning. If the NMHMA awards are going to be so unfair and one-sided, stop ripping people off and stop having them. It\'s only a matter of time before all the real talent in NM moves their music where it matters....not in NM!!!

The Awards Program/Music was awesome. The hosts were excellent, brief and articulate (important). The screen productions were very good and brief (which is good). The presenters were good and brief. Our plan (speaking for at least 10 people that don't have e-mail), is to attend every year. We enjoyed the program very much, however, we were disappointed in the lateness of the dinner and the dance, especially when chili and beans are served. We make a special trip from Colorado Springs to attend the entire event, especially the awards and the dance. It would be just fantastic if you could start the program at 4 or 5 p.m. and end it by 9 p.m. the lastest, serve dinner or skip dinner and go directly to the dance by 10 the lastest. We were starving by 11:30 p.m. (which is when dinner was served), & we wanted to stay for the dance, but by the time the 2 bands played, it was 2 a.m. and that's too late for those of us who love to dance and who don't stay up after midnight. Also if some of us want to stay and gamble in the casino for a little while after the event, it's already 4 or 5 a.m. (TOO LATE).
During the awards program, why can the bands play after every 5-6 award presentations, instead of every 2 or 3 presentations and have the rest of the bands play during dinner, even if they plan 3-4 songs. The dance bands only played 6 songs anyway, OR skips dinner and go directly to the dance. We would pay $10 for just the dance, without dinner, anyway. I hope that these suggestion are taken in a positive way and not as a criticism.

OR, why can't the seating for the awards be a dinner (rounds tables setting) instead of the theater style?

I hope you read the comments and consider some of the suggestions!

Thank you and I hope you continue showing off the beautiful NM music!

I really enjoyed the show. We were very proud of the band and their awards. I was very proud to see my son up there playing the guitar. He was the one with the black shirt with blue flames. However, where are the pictures? We were not allowed to take our own, so how can we get some? Please post something on your website letting the people know where and how we can get pictures and videos. Congratulations to all the winners.

I realy enjoyed the NMHMA awards show and the music performances. Very glad I attended. The program was to long, to loud, and not any specific directions for the dinner dance. Congradulations on a very successful 20th Awards Show, I do plan to attend if the program is reduced in lenth and more room for dancing. Thank you.

First of all, thank you to NMHMA for putting on this event each year. It is such a great feeling to see all of the beautiful amazing talent that our Hispanic people have. The culture it brings and continues to flourish and keeping it alive for our future generations. Your emcees, Eric Garcia and Mathew Martinez did an excellent job, very professional. Your presenters (most of them) also did an excellent job. The colored program is just beautiful and I appreciate the tribute to Karen DeAguero, a beautiful artist that is missed dearly. I would also like to share some constructive criticism and hope that you all will take these into account. #1. I was surprised and disappointed to see how many issues/problems you had with the sound system & the music was too loud. #2. The show lasted six hours and that was way too long, and that didn't include the time going in to get to your seats. #3. Too many commercials/ads. #4. The process of having to exit the room while it was set-up for dinner was totally ridiculous. In the process of exiting the room one of your security personnel was extremely rude. #5. I suggest that when you hire (or get volunteers) to take tickets, usher, security, etc. they should be instructed to be smile, be friendly, be nice, and be helpful. Not rude, unfriendly, etc. One lady in particular was just very rude. #6. A person should be allowed to leave the event and allowed to return to the event without being hassled. We should be able to keep our stub to get back in. #7. The dance floor was too small for the # of people attending and it should have been a wood floor. In comparison to years past, this awards show has improved immensely. I'm sure that the amount of time spent on it is enormous and kudos to everyone involved. Thank you once again for this great opportunity to listen to beautiful music and to witness the artisits being recognized for their hard work and talents. Congratulations on celebrating "20 Years".

1) I thoroughly enjoyed this very important event! I loved the music. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. However, the sound system was too loud/very strong base, even in the very back of the room. My ear drums were ready to burst. Was someone monitoring the sound system? All performers were great, however, the last performer (Jerome Grant), who sings great, had a terrible sounds system. Couldn't enjoy his music (which I normally do) due to the sounds system. 2) The five hour Awards presentation program was good, except too long. I, as well as most people, had to get up to stretch/walk, due to pain & soreness of the glutes(buttocks) and had to find someone to watch our seats, afraid our seats would be taken and couldn't stand still to stretch, in fear of blocking others' view. Too much repetition (thanking sponsors and repeating the 20th annual awards), which is nice, but automated popups on the screens would have been more noticeable and appreciated. It was on the brochure (very clearly) & was made known by the the "masters of ceremony", which are the key people to make that known.
Even the Oscars and the CMA Awards do not last that long. I thought that the board of directors and other members were so professional, talented and intelligent, therefore I cannot understand why the program cannot be a 3 1/2 hour program (max).
3) We were not properly and clearly instructed about the dinner dance procedure. We were being told to move, but would not tell us where or that there would be lines for ticket collection. We were being herded like sheep & didn't know where we were going. The EMCEE should have made that very clear toward the end of the awards presentation. We knew we had to clear the ballroom for dinner setup (that was the only clear message)period. Need a dance floor, the carpet is safety hazard. I would love to attend all these presentations, if they are not that long! Kudos on the nice brochure! Thank you!

We really enjoyed the show. It was elegant, exciting, and cultural based. We brought 12 students that were able to see successful hispanics doing what they love and this encouraged all of them. There wasn't a bad response from any of us. The class and elegance of the evening really made it an experience to remember; we were able to step out of the ordinary into the extraordinary for a remarkable night. Thank you!

The NMHMA demonstrates the promotion of cultural music that touches hearts beyond New Mexico. Besides minor audio concerns, you and all the musicians have out done yourselves, setting an excellent example and inspiring many who can contribute to the cultural musical talent. God bless those who have sacrificed so much!
