Re: Corporal Donald "Rusty" Golar

There are a few paragraphs about him in Robert Leckie's book, Okinawa: The Last Battle of World War II, which most large libraries hold. The ISBN number is 0-670-84716-X.

I hope this helps. Despite Golar's heroics, apparently he did not even receive as much as a Bronze Star according to Leckie's account and he died in combat on Sugar Loaf Hill.

Re: Corporal Donald "Rusty" Golar

I just read the amazing story behind this event. He could be the bravest individual I have yet to read about. He did a lot more than carry a wounded marine down Sugarloaf; he fought with more valor than most. His story is told in "Okinawa" by Robert Leckie.
