O gauge identity

How do I determine if an item is O gauge or another gauge. Some specify others do not. I am new in model railroad.
Thanks in advance

Re: O gauge identity

hello Melvin. Welcome to the world of model trains. O gauge track is about 1.25" wide. This is true for O scale, 2 rails or O toy train, three rails.

Ho gauge track is about .75"; N scale track is about 3/8" wide; and S gauge track is about 7/8" wide. Usually these three have only two rails.

Hope this helps.
