First of all I want to thank Mr. Balcomb and all of the members for what you are doing. I think the way that you give your time to educate and remind citizens of their history is wonderful! I also want to thank you guys for participating in our annual "Roud-A-Bout" celebrations....I only hear good things when people talk about what they have experienced by seeing you and your reinactments. This site is very interesting & educational. Again thanks for bringing our history alive!!!!

My great, great (may be another "great" in there) Uncle William Addison Tesh was a Corporal in Company I, 28th North Carolina. I have copies of his letters home and other things copied from archives at the Duke University Library. Fascinating stuff. Getting on in years but my intent is to follow his steps from battlefield to battlefield someday. He died near the end of the war. The circumstances are not clear and no one knows where he was laid to rest. Perhaps I can solve the mystery.

My great grandfather is Wiley D. Royal, the muscisian(drummer) for Company I. He was captured at Hanover CC and exchanged at Aikens Landing in Richmond. He was captured, again, at Amelia CC and served as a POW at Point Lookout until exchanged after the war.

Comments:

I am thinking of joining a reenactment unit. I am a retired Marine Artilleryman. I served from January 1980 - January 2000.

I Live in Swansboro, Onslow county NC on the coast since my retirement from the Marines.

I am Originally from Tecumseh Michigan about 35 miles from where General Custer was raised. One of his favorite horses was buried in my home town.

I know that I had several members of my family in the civil war under my great grandmothers maiden name Cooley. Most fought for the north in Ohio regiments. One fought for the south in a Maryland unit. One union ancestor was a POW at Andersonville in Georgia. He survived prison camp and latter died in his 30's from TB that he contracted while a prisoner there. Some family names are Becker, Brown, Smith, on Fathers side , Jackson, Tuckerman, Cooley, Hurl, on Mothers side. Like most mid westerners I am of German, Irish, Welsh decent, a little native American from my fathers side tribe unknown.

I am joining to have fun reenacting civil war battles. The chance to relive history which is my favorite subject, especially the civil war. Comradery and camping. I want to find a unit that's a good fit I would prefer not to join a unit where I am reliving 20 years in the Marines With people stressing out over the little stuff. I am happy to be a private again for now. I understand good order and discipline, I am good at taking orders, Trained to march and drill manual of arms the Marine way (Marines drill at attention) with an M-16. I feel I could be an asset.
