I know that browsers display some pages differently but I was wondering why this page is so different in Firefox and IE7. The IE7 is the preferred view.

As a general rule differences are because Microsoft doesn't follow web standards although they are getting better.

IE tends to be more forgiving of coding errors.

On my screen the photos are in a different position in relation to the text

Browser: IE7

Not on my computer. But the images will move around as you increase or decrease the size of the browser window. There may be a window size where you will notice browser differences.
