width of web site issue

I have yet to publish this site, but, when I uploaded a photograph to the center of the web site, the overall width of the web site shrank by 2/3rds and center section won't show up. ???

Browser: travelback4u@yahoo.com

Hello Thomas,
There is wrong symbol '&' in your web site link and it is not working.

Re: width of web site issue

pb&j and kelly,

Just drop the "&" sign out of the URL and the link works fine. Try www.firerescuefestival.com.

Thomas,

You have already zeroed in on the problem. The image is too big.

The center section of your page does show up, but you need to scroll way down the page to see it. Website Wizard users run into this problem all the time. The Wizard defined the overall width of the web page to be 85% of the browser display area. It then fixes the width of the sidebars at 140 pixels each. It then lets the center section float. But for the page to display correctly all the numbers must add up correctly. If you take the width of the two side bars (140 140=280), and then add a little padding, the width of a image in the center section should be limited to about 520 pixels, on a 1024,768 screen. Users with lower resolution displays, or who run their browser at less than full screen, will see the center content area move below the sidebar data.

The image you have is good, but you might want to consider putting it in the header, rather than the body. The header has more room and can better handle a wider image.
