I'm hoping someone knows how to trace harassing emails from AIM. I have the IP address but it is pretty vague. Does anyone know how to trace this address?

The disturbing thing is that these emails are from a young student.

not much you can do

probably someone that is just an annoying spammer and more


the person may have an e-mail from somewhere but may actually be in china or somewhere with the IP etc


just set a filter to block them perhaps

Spamcop used to provide a lookup tool for non members but that seems to have vanished.

If you can identify the email service being used then send copies, with full headers, to their abuse department (If it is from China, forget it, they don't give a **** over there).

As long as the address is consistent then just block it.

thanks for the thoughts...AOL is absolutely no help, nor AIM, where the email came from.
It's amazing that someone can threaten and send hate mail and all you can do is block them.

Most email providers are good about dealing with misuse. However it is easy to forge the addresses on an email and there isn't much that can be done in those cases.

If serious threats are being made rather than just childish abuse then you would be advised to seek legal advice locally.
