I have tried to follow the advise from the previous mailings but can't make it to work, so here is my problem:

The below code works fine, except that I want each of the options to open in a new window. Can someone tell me what to do? I have tried to insert target="_new" href=, or part of it, in various places, but it doesn't work.

I know the code I gave above opens in a new window, that being from a text link or a nav menu....but as far as how those links are handled in a drop box, if even thats the code...no idea..

This kind of thing always happens when Bravenet posts some simple code. Everyone seems to want to use it, but not exactly the same way that it is presented.

The code that John is talking about is the "Quick Navigation Box", posted by Roger Riche in the latest Bravenet webmaster Tips & tricks! thingy. It's down near the bottom of the page.

It's a fairly simple rework of a menu structure that uses a onChange event to redirect your browser to another web page. It's original intent was to navigate within a persons web site, so it wasn't deemed necessary to open a new window.

But the issue here is to use the Quick Nav code to open a URL in a new window, so that the user doesn't navigate away from the original page. Then the site owner can point to other web sites and still hold on to the visitor. This can be done, but not with the onChange event Javascript code provided, because the window.location.href operation does not have the ability to open a new window. But, part of the Javascript code is useful.

Instead of using the window.location.href operation, you need to first extract the value from the menu and than pass it to a window.open operation. The full explanation of how to do this, requires some background in writing Javascript, so I will just list the code below for you to ponder. The modified code is highlighted. Pay careful attention to the use of single and double quotes.

This could be expanded on a little bit more, to prevent the first selection, where it says "Select a page..", from opening a blank window. But that's really beyond this question and may cause confusion.
