Is there a way that people who visit my site can listen to the music but not be able to download it? I have five entire songs from our band from various CDs and we don't want to give the music away.
Before they can listen to it they have to download it. Everything on the web is downloaded to the local computer and the web browser etc access the local copy. That's the way the web works.
The only exception to this would be an expensive setup using streaming software on the server but even then there is no way to stop them recording their own copy on their computer as the music plays.
Your answer is assisting me in reasoning with the band members but they are now questioning me about only entering snips of the song. Always questions from the ones that don't have to figure it out...Thank You
You could do like a built in Flash mp3 player
such as the one on my site.
The only problem is that the songs that you add to it have to be hosted some where already so you'll need some webspace. But if the songs u would like to let people listen to are from famous artists(jay-Z,Linkinpark,Eminem, ect) then you might be able to find them already hosted by going to webjay.org and doing a search for em.
u can check out my player here www.timishue.bravehost.com/audio.html
I was sugesting that he use this as a solution if the songs he wanted to let ppl listen to are already on the net. If it was like a track from his band or his friends band he wants to let ppl sample then this isnt for him, duh. ll the songs files I have on my playlist are all located on different servers and websites so there is no fear of me being prosecuted for distributing copyrighted material cuz i just pretty much give u the link to listen to. And yeah that is one of the problems of useing files from differnt servers some songs will download slower, thnx for lettin me know about the avenged sevenfold thing. I'll just find another version of it on a better server np.
