code is changing- using bravenet webpage editor-when switching from text to visual

code changing from edit text to edit visual using bravenets webpage editor -

Thank Goodness I am getting smart enough to make a copy before I do anything else! Below is a page I have done and it is currently 100% funciotnal with no errors on page. For some reason when I switch from edit text (using bravenets webpage editor) to edit visual it messes up my head section and replaces the codes with a bnet. coding as well as moves the scripts to the body portion thus disabling all of my menus to the rest of the site. It also changes all the lower buttons such as home etc that had not been assigned url's to the bravenet guestbook.

The correct page is http://living-fountain-ministries.org/testadoration.html altho I still need to complete the page right now it shows no errors.

the http://living-fountain-ministries.org/2testadoration.html is what happens when I switch to the visual editing on bravenet. when you go back and view the html coding you will see it has changed.

The error free page is http://living-fountain-ministries.org/3testadoration.html

When going to a visual editor with bravenet it creates a page error doing away with my menus see http://living-fountain-ministries.org/2testadoration.html

It also happens with my other pages I have tried to do

Error free page http://living-fountain-ministries.org/Able.html

With error after doing visual editor http://living-fountain-ministries.org/testAble.html

(Please note below I removed the < and >'s
In both cases it changes the header stuff to

META content="MSHTML 6.00.2800.1264" name=GENERATOR /HEAD

BODY script src="menuscript.js alt=bnet_script_replace src=" /script

And moves the other stuff into the body

When it originally was this
HEAD TITLE Welcome to Living Fountains Ministries - Adoration /TITLE

script src="menuscript.js" language="javascript" type="text/javascript" /script

link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="menustyle.css" media="screen, print" /

SCRIPT Language="JavaScript" src="myMenu.js"

/SCRIPT

Yes, the same post is in another forum, and is equally unanswered.

Living Fountain,

That's a very nice explanation, but all it does is confirm that the Visual/Text editor in the File Manager can do strange things to your web pages. Since you already know enough to save a copy of your work you should get smarter and get completely away from the File Manager. There may be ways of structuring your code so that the File Manager's editor doesn't rearrange things, but you are better off getting a web design package, that doesn't do that knd of thing.

Creating on your local PC is much easier and quicker than working on line. This gives you a backup of your entire web site and lets you upload whenever your ready. Every design package I have come across has built in upload capability. Try some of the following links:

Nvu.com - Mozilla based Free site designer.

Netscape.com - Composer available with full download.

WebEasy.com - Limited free version available through the Download link.

CoffeeCup.com - Nice, low cost, web design packages.

HTML-Kit - Free text based web page editor. Great if you want to learn a little HTML.

IrfanView.com - Good free graphic editor. Built in thumbnail generator.

p.s. Cut back on the number of stars from 75 to 10. The large number of stars is killing your visitor's PCs. The CPU usage goes right to 100% and stops most everything from working.

Re: code is changing- using bravenet webpage editor-when switching from text to visual

Martin and Stephen,
Thanks so much for your suggestion. I have only been doing this since Thanksgiving and to create a backup of a file seemed like common sense to me after loosing something I worked so long and hard on by simply pushing the wrong button or putting in the wrong code and saving. As far as yours and Martins suggestion of the bravenet editor verses creating on my own, Well it seems like a BIg Scary world out there especially for one who has no understanding of what she has been doing. But I am willing to give it a try. I have had a friend offer soemthing called Macroflash? I think and he said that you can write the code and view it undernieth as you create it. Sounds kinda like what I need as I started out cutting and pasting by Bravenets visual editor and when I got daring enough to try to add some other scripts such as no right click that is when I switched to the editor. But not knowing what i was really doing I would switch back ad forth to view the progress. I know you all are both probably shaking your heads. Give me credit for trying to learn something new, stupid as I may sound. I have went to a few sites Martin has recommended in the past on learning HTML and have the basic understanding, so I guess I am ready for the next step as you both suggest. Thank you again for your kind reply and help! It is much appreciated!

And yes this was posted in 2 places as I wasnt sure what category it fell under. I know most do such an abbreviated form in the subject line that if you try to search for an answer in the databases nothing shows up. unless of course you just type in the word help and have several days to thumb through what you are really looking for!!
