I am not very good at this sort of thing, but I have been doing our club's site for some time but as you can see it is very basic, (not knowing all the technical jargon).
As Christmas is on the way I thought it would be nice to put falling snowflakes on to the home page but I don't know how to, I don't know if this is the right place to ask as I came upon this forum by accident.
please can anyone help.

There are lots of snow flake Javascripts on the internet. The easiest thing to do is go to "google.com" and do a search on the string "javascript snow flakes". The first page of hits should be all you need to go through. You might want to take a look at the one by Steven Chapman at "http://javascript.about.com/library/blsnow1.htm".
