As long as your files are less than the 1MB maximum and are in the list of allowed file types (.htm, .html, .gif, .jpg, .png, .txt, .swf, .mid, .rmi, .au, .wav, .js, .css, .ico, .bmp) you can do most anything on a free site. Here is an example of a flash game on a free web site.
The ".swf" file is just under the 1MB limit and I just used Internet Explorer in the FTP mode to upload it. It only took about a 20-30 seconds to upload (DSL). Note that this will also eat up your available daily bandwidth pretty quick.
I think your asking if you can reduce the file size by making a ZIP file and then upload it. A ZIP file will usually reduce the file size, but ".zip" files are not on the list of approved file types, for free web sites.
