This seems simple enough, but can't figure out how to do it.
I would like to have a scrolling box where i can post updates and news.
for example- http://home.comcast.net/~becca88/
....something like that except wider
it would be nice if i could change the background inside the box also
does anyone have a link or code that could help me?

I am not sure if you want automatially scrolling text or a fixed size box that the visitor can scroll manually.

For the latter either use forms to create a text box or create a scrollable div. See the site linked above.

For auto-scrolling text, as far as I remember, you will need a script as the html for this isn't cross browser compatible. There are lots of free script libraries around, do a Google search.
