New USA collegiate sport of Acrobatics and Tumbling

The National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association created a new college sport that has evolved from competitive cheerleading. It's called Acrobatics and Tumbling.
Much like a track, swimming or gymnastics meet, there are events with heats in each event. Teams enter each heat and get points for how each entry scores. The scores ad up to create a winner for the event, but the goal is to have all the events ad up to the highest over all team score.
The 6 events are compulsories, stunts, baskets, pyramids, tumbling and team routine. The team with the most total points wins. This past April, University of Oregon won the NCATA National championships over the University of Maryland. You can watch video by vising the ncata website. USA Cheer/Varsity Brands copied the whole thing and calls their model STUNT. It's not the same.
Acrobatics and Tumbling is a phenomenal new sport that we want to bring to Canadian teams! You host head to head meets against one to three teams. It's easy to follow and understand and the crowd can directly see the back to back comparisons of skills between teams. A meet lasts just over an hour and a half. So there's lots of time to cheer on your favorite team!
Scoring is like gymnastics with a start value that eliminates subjectivity. The start value is based on the difficulty of the skill and there are set deductions with set values for every mistake. Deductions such as bent legs, feet apart, incomplete spins, bases taking steps in stunts are all added up after each performance and subtracted from the start value to give the score. No more opinion, no more doubt. This is exact scoring that is OBJECTIVE.
This is the most exciting way to compete. It's all about you as an athlete and the skills as a sport! For more information, visit www.thencata.org or email osuagct@aol.com

Re: New USA collegiate sport of Acrobatics and Tumbling

I have watched 10 Acro meets last season all in person. The elite skills being performed and the head to head format of two teams going back to back against each other is very exciting. The average non cheerleading person can compare each team in each heat and get a sense of who is better. The heats and events come at a good pace and the scores are easy to follow for the crowd since they come after each heat. Perhaps the most excited group is the athletes themselves. They aren't limited to one shot and that's it. In the Acro format, they get to cheer on teammates and perform numerous times in addition to the team routine. The energy and excitement from them alone makes the entire event fun to watch, fun to follow and exciting to be a part of.
