My Story - Part 2

My New Life

PART 2

I know its been a while since I last wrote, but here it goes...

After my accident and awakening from a 2 week long coma, I thought my life was over. I figured I was ruined, never to do a single thing ever again for the rest of my life. and knowing what I know now, I was indeed mistaken. Rehabilitation for me was much more than just relearning basic life skills, it was learning how to except what has happened and make the best of it. I am not going to say that rehab was the coolest thing I ever did in my life, but it was one of the best experiences I had and probably will ever have. After 14 grueling months of rehab and pt, I learned that my life was far from over, but yet, for me, there was still something missing. For me, sports had been a major part of my life, between skiing, volleyball, basketball, waterskiings, blah, blah, yeah... while anyways you get the point and after my accident, I didn't beleive I would ever be able to succeed in any sport, and once again I was rather mistaken. For me, it started of learning to play basketball with my sister and parents, and then it went to taking a shot at wheelchair racing, and then came the biggest challenge of my life. I once again was going to try to ski... a little differently, but it was still skiing. For me, the hardest part wasn't actually going down the slope, but bringing myself to get back on the slopes. I found it rather hard at first, and it times, asked myself how stupid I really was, putting myself in the same place I was 3 years before, but at the same time, I knew I must do it, for me, it had become a great fear that I knew I must overcome, and no longer mattered weather I suceed or fail at the sport itself, but just that I actually try. And from that day on, I began to look forward to the winter months - as long as sidewalks were shoveled .

will write the conclusion when I get more time

I would like to collect some stories of people that have overcome enormous obstacles. If you or someone you know has a story to tell, post it here. I will be featuring stories on my website. You can make it as long or as short as you would like =)
