stamp on back of service record looks like a turtle with an S on its back

My Father Frank Whitaker served in the 6th Marines , I am trying to track down as much as I can about his service . His service record book is does not go into much detail . It does say he left Pearl Harbor on the S.S. Typhoon on the 17th of April 1944 to Espiritu Santos , New Herbredes . I have tried to find info on the S.S. Typhoon and can not find a thing . What is the significance of the turtle stamp with S on it's back . At that time he was in the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade . Do not want to get long winded here any help will be greatly appreciated . Thank You Glenn A. Whitaker
