Pop passed away on 7/28/2010. Going through his USMC records, my brother and I discovered on his discharge papers that he was wounded on Guam and that in 1950 he petitioned to be awarded the purple heart. It was denied as no mention of wounds were in his medical files. We want that purple heart for him. Is there anyone out there who remembers him and can verify his wounds? I'm guessing it was a minor hand wound as he said once that he got a "scratch" on his hand...any help at all will be appreciated. BTW, we sent him off with full USMC honors to include bagpipes.
