I recently read an excellent book, JOKER ONE by Donovan Campbell, which is the story of USMC 1st Lt Campbell's platoon as they were engaged in urban warfare in Anbar, Iraq in 2004. After their first large fire fight, one of his men, Lance Corporal Joe Mahardy asks him "Would the Marines who fought at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, you know, be proud of us?"
