Walter H. Schrepel was my dad. He was assigned to the 6th MAR Div from 1945-56.

My father fought on Okinawa. He was a pretty close mouthed man and did not talk much about his squad or platoon or company.

He enlisted in 1944 at 18 years old and joined the Marines to avoid possibly fighting kinsmen in Germany. Dad was from New York City, borough of the Bronx.

I have misplaced his division memorial book so I cannot find his unit to help. The only thing I remember was him saying he was a company clerk in a rifle company.

I contacted my senator, and was able to get my father's complete military record and see the units he served with during the war. He was also in the 6th MAr Div - K Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Marines. If you go this route, you should have your dad's ssn or service number - if not, it may be more difficult to locate his records.
