My grandfather was on okinawa 6th-22nd and was riding on the hood of a jeep when he was gunned down with a machine gun. He was a sgt. Robert M. Dempsey. Awarded the bronze star. Was left for dead but was rescued and sent home, with 3 bulletsm still in him.
