my dad had his picture circled on page 84 of the 6th division history book driving a truck across a mud flat with a line of jeeps behind.his dd214 says truck driver.his name was Lester Van Hoose,from groveport,Ohio.he was a pfc when discharged.he died in 1974,and never said much about his marine duty.did anybody serve with him ,thanks,Dan Van Hoose
update,i talked to mom yesterday and asked her if dad ever said anything about okinawa.she said he just mentioned infantry and a lot of hand to hand fighting and nite attacks.i told her his dd214 mentioned truck driver,but thats what she remembers.when i was a kid,i remember he used his marine knife to butcher with,and i played with a fatigue jacket with metel buttons on it.
