Hello, I recently came across a 6th Division Marine lockback knife in a presentation case. It is a Kabar, and number 0269. The bolsters are engraved with 6th Division, etc., and the blade is also etched with USMC. The handles are wood with inserts of the Marine colors. Can anybody tell me anything about this knife? I feel pretty lucky to have gotten it, given the history and valor of the 6th Marines. Thank You for any help. Bob Gillingham
I replied with an E Mail to Bob, but for othes who may read this posting.....The knife is a Commemorative knife and usually made in a restricted amount, such as 500 or 1000. Hence the number on the knife. They are simply a collectors item, and are in now way the original K-Bar knives issued during WWII.
Just a nice display item, especially for those who served in the 6th USMC Division.
I have my dads knife he was issued in the 6th Marine Division. It looks like a KA BAR but it was made by PAL. It says PAL on one side of the blade next to the hilt and on the other side it is marked USMC. It has a leather scabbard that is unmarked.
