my father Lindsay (Mike) Stringfellow

Just found this site. Wondering if anyone knew my father PFC Lindsay Gordon Stringfellow who was nicknamed Mike. He had been in the reserves stateside and was a lot older than most of the guys. I served with the Red Cross in Vietnam and enjoyed working with the Marines in the Danang area. My father was killed on June 20 right at the end of the Okinawa campaign. I have a few memories of him. Re: my father Lindsay (Mike) Stringfellow

Lindsay,

I do not know your father, nor did I have a role in the Marines. But I can tell you that six months ago I hit this website trying to do the same thing you are --- trying to contact men who knew my father in the Marines. In the past six months I have made contact with eight such men who knew my dad, and who all had wonderful things to say. It has been incredible. Also, I looked up that name under the Honor Roll, in the History of the Sixth Marine Division. He is listed: Stringfellow, Lindsay G. PFC 6 Division, on page 241. My father's name appears on about the last page of the Purple Heart recipients. I wish I could help you more with this email. Should you choose to get back to me, I can pass on what I've learned lately as far as resources to check out. One woman, in particular, was a great help to me and within hours of her advice, I made contact with three men who knew my dad. As time passed, I added more names. If I can be of any help, get back to me here in northern Utah, soon to be host to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Sincerely,

John J. Wise

:=wink

Hi,

My 6th Div history shows a Stewart S. Stringfellow received a purple heart in the Okinawa operation. No other info.

Also shows Lindsay G. on HONOR ROLL as KIA with organization only as 6th Division - no specific outfit This usually means he

arrived to the division late..possibly as a replacement.
