I'd like to know if anyone shares this history with me?
Thank you.. Marilyn . PETER RANKIN was born Abt. 1753 in Scotland, and died April 09, 1842 in West Charlton NY, Saratoga Co. He married MARGARET GILCHRIST. a stone cutter and bridge builder. buried West Charlton NY, Saratoga County USA Immigrated to USA in 1820 Peter Rankin was born in Scotland, and married Margaret Gilchrist who is buried in Lisbon OH. They had eleven children, all who were born while they lived at the Berryhill Farm, two miles from Kilsyth, and ten or twelve miles from Stirling in Scotland. The farm was hilly and stony, and adapted for grazing only. There was a beautiful view of the Kilven River. The buildings were all of stone. They were one story structures arranged in an almost complete quadrangle. The date on the stone above the door was 1809, and thus quite likely built by Peter himself. The beds in the house were built in, and had doors closing them off entirely. There was a flowing spring in one corner of the yard. By the time he immigrated to the US with his family, several of his children had preceded him. He settled in West Charlton NY, Saratoga County. He died here, and is buried here. He was remembered by those who knew him as being an unusually kind and gentle man. Children of PETER RANKIN and MARGARET GILCHRIST are: 2. i. MARGARET RANKIN, b.
