Re: The Sociopath Next Door -- Martha Stout

Hexi
Moral sociopath sounds quite silly. Playing by the rules to fit into society and to avoid complications has nothing to do with morality. If there were no consequences for breaking such rules s/he would not abide by them. There is no emotional component to compel the person, no shame or guilt when breaking the rules.

I don't know if you see the point i am trying to make. This isn't about playing the rules to fit into society or avoid complications, I am trying to say that could not the sociopath determine his own rules which may coincide with the rules that are common to society in fact, to ensure his own success in life?

Everyone, ultimately, plays by their own rules and values, not just sociopaths. There is just no component, no right/wrong scale to restrict what those values may be with a sociopath.
