Sounds Like A Broken Record

Residents of Cecil Hills, ever been to Carnes Hill?

Many of you may say "offcourse, but what does that have to do with cecil hills?".

Carnes Hill was a Landcom development started in the mid 90's, it attracted many residents with its 2 lakes and football field. When the display village was shutdown and landcom moved out, the smaller of the two lakes became stagnant as the fountain was no longer airing the water, but the larger lake was excellent and had up to 150 ducks, swans, ibis's and water hens, never mind the turtles, eels and various insects. The lake although murky and smelly was beautiful, No-one I new of in the whole area didn't like it. In 2003-04, Landcom had decided 1 football field wasn't enough and decided to build a new one where the lake was right next to an existing foortball field. Shortly after a sign on the edge of the lake read "Sediment Basin - Site of future playing fields". Several so called "community consultations" and petitions to save the lake later, the pumps were brought in in 2005-2006, and now we have 2 football fields and one stagnant puddle.

The saddest part of the whole process was watching the birds land on the dust in summer wondering where their lake had gone, it wasn't our lake it was the wildlife's.

If there is one thing the community learnt during this ordeal is that, the dictatorship of landcom can never be changed. If your idea isn't on their agenda, say goodbye and get some nice photos.
