O guage switches and track

After years of running on Lionel super O track and switches I finally gave up because my steam engins would continually derail over the switches. I decided on gargraves track and ross custom switches. Now I find out that lionel GG1 engins and operating cars with pick-up shoes won't run over ross switches. I'm thinking of gargraves track with lionel O22 switches, but that will look silly. Has anyone had success with switches? Any advice or comments would be appriciated. Thanks

Re: O guage switches and track

The 022 is a mighty good switch, and I think that if you paint the molded ties brown to match the GarGraves track, it will blend quite well.

From what I gather, Ross Custom is the preferred switch for folks who run a variety of equipment, i.e. it's the most compatible.

Having said all that though, the switch seems to be the #1 trouble area on a layout. I have none on my current layout, as I run many brands of trains, prewar, postwar & contemporary.
