We bought a 1950 Lionel train set off e-bay. We are having problems getting it to work. We have a 1033 transformer. When we hook it up, the train does not run and the wires spark. Is there something we are doing wrong??
Hi Folks. The 1033 transformer has 4 terminals in a row on top. 1.)Be sure your wires are hooked to the "U" terminal and "A" terminal. 2.)Assuming you are using a track power lockon, make sure that the connected wires are NOT touching at the track. 3.)Take everything off the track but the engine, and try it out. If it works, check each car for a short. Best way to do this is by adding one car at a time. 4.)If the engine doeasn't work, be sure that each section of track is checked. Three pins in each section? Center rail must be insulated at the metal ties, usually three per section. 5.) Be sure track is shiny. DO NOT use steel wool on it. Fine sandpaper is good, wipe with a clean cloth rag.
If all this fails to do it, take engine and transformer to a train service station.
