LIONEL CLASSICS from the late 80's-early 90's

I was just wondering if anybody out there knows whether or not the Standard Gauge classics that were reissued in the late 80's-early 90's were made in America, or were they made in China, or possibly Korea?

Hello Randy. The Lionel Classics from the late 80's-early 90's were made in Korea by MTH when they were a subcontractor for Lionel in those days. The tooling for the originals no longer exist.so,Lionel decided to Team up with MTH since they had new tooling made to reproduce the old Lionel trains of the 20's & 30's. Hope this helps you out.Keith

Thank you Keith this REALLY helps me alot. I have been searching for a #400E Blue Comet set. I found a dealer who has the "Classics" set for $3900. I can't justify paying that much because for an extra couple of thousand, I should be able to get my paws on an original.
