617 santa fe swicher ?

I just got a really nice ex 617 switcher has the later frame with steel stamp and horn and 2 pin light
with diecast trucks, BUT has operating couplers did it come this way (this engine does not look like it was ever apart ) O by the way in the Greenberg book
it says non operating couplers , BUT a 613 union pacific switcher says also non operating But clearly shows operating couplers ,

Any body got a 617 with operating couplers??
Thanks for letting me know , DAniel

Re: 617 santa fe swicher ?

Just a thought here, but information in the Greenberg
books is often based on how the majority of people
polled (also called concensus) have observed the item.
Also remember that Lionel often times would use up any
old inventory, which explains many of the variations we
see in the Greenberg catalog. This is why during
transition years, some rolling stock, which should have
AAR trucks ends up with staple end trucks.

Hope this helps,

Bruce

Thanks for your input! now the big question would you pay top dollar for one in ex+ condition and not feel cheated if it had operation couplers evan though the greenberg book said it should of had non-operatiing ,
oh by the way this is one reason I love this hobby and the trains! thanks for letting me know!
