Or you could remind visitors that every web browser ever created has a print function already built into it at File/Print.

You might remind them of that, but that wasn't what was asked. If he wants a print button on his page, let him. I just gave him a pointer.

And I pointed out that the Print function already exists in every web browser in use today. Just trying to save him some work duplicating functionality that already exists in the software that his visitors are already using to view his webpages.

Oh no, you took it the wrong way. It doesn't rub me the wrong way at all. It's a good learning experience for him to find out how it is done, from within a web page, and how to search this information out for himself. One piece of knowledge leads to another. I also thought that, sooner or later, he will figure out that it was a big waste of time, but he will learn 10 other things on the way.
