I am a 45 year old woman currently diagnosed with Bipolar I, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Anxiety Disorder NOS. For as long as I can remember, my mind has spewed forth gibberish in the form of incoherent thoughts. These thoughts are always grammatically correct but never make sense, e.g., "The window opened out onto a green peach." They are never vocalized, nor do they affect my writing. Because of this, they do not fit the critera for "word salad" in Schizophrenia. I have asked each of my doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists, for an explanation of my "condition" but they are unable to provide me with an explanation except to insist that I am not psychotic. Because of my bipolar disorder, I have been on several antipsychotics throughout my life, none of which take away these strange thoughts which are frequent and disturbing. I have not been able to find anything on the internet that describes my condition. Is this common in bipolar disorder? Can someone provide me with an explanation and/or point me to relevant literature?
