Battle of Rockford on March 1st and 2nd

Greetings members of the 28th North Carolina troops!
Our first campaign of 2014 is fast approaching as we prepare for the Battle of Rockford on March 1st and 2nd.

In addition to our usual battles on Saturday and Sunday, we will also reenact the the "shootout" that occured at the Bond School House on February 12th, 1863.

We encourage your partcipation, as this is a unique opportunity to portray the 151st Anniversary of an event that occurred in Yadkin County during the

War between the States! This shootout occurred between NC/Yadkin County Militia & some men who were hiding to avoid conscription into the Confederate Army at

the Bond School House near Deep Creek Friends Church in Yadkin County.

Camping is encouraged on Friday night. The Rockford General Store will provide a FREE spagetti meal on Friday night, February 28th from 6-8pm.

I will be acting as the event coordinator and will be onsite all day Friday to assist and direct you to the designated camping and parking areas for reenactors.

Please note that no alcholic beverages are allowed in the Rockford Park area, as Park rules are geared for a family atmosphere, and your coopration on this is greatly appreciated!

If you arrive on Saturday morning, please drop off your gear in camp as quickly as possible and park your vehicle in the designated reenactor parking area by 9am.

It is very important that Reenactors move their vehicles to the designated reenactor parking area as we expect a huge crowd and there is limited parking for the public.

Please bring both sets of uniforms as all particpating reenacting units will divide up into blue and gray as needed in order to put on the best possible "show" for the public.

For the Bond School House scenario, will need as many folks as possible to have a civilain "look" (example: jackets without insignia).

There are several speaking and acting parts, so don't be shy.

I've attached the script that we will use. Please review and let me know if you can help. We need militia, conscripts, and some ladies to help out as well.

Judy James and Lori Henderson did a great job last year and hoping we can have them do an encore performance!

A WORK DAY is planned for Saturday, February 22nd from 9am until noon to go over the script for the Shootout

and also cleanup the battle field area. Your help on that day is greatly appreciated! Please contact me if you can help (336-428-2026).

Many thanks to Rex Hovey, who is planning to be onsite Saturday as a sutler during the event to provide his usual assortment of supplies for the reenactors.

The Rockford General Store will also be open throughout the weekend of the event, providing some breakfast bisquits and various lunch items on their menu.

Firewood and facilities will be available as well.

Weekend SCHEDULE: Military camps will open to the public from 10:00 - 4:00 each day. Drills and demonstrations held throughout the day.

Camps closed to public during battles. Bring your lawn chairs!

Re: Battle of Rockford on March 1st and 2nd

Weather is looking much better for the Rockford area this weekend.

Should be a great weekend for ROCKFORD!!!

We'll have plenty of firewood.

The reenactor camps and parking will be the same places as last year, except that we will need to stay clear of the old hotel.

Hope to see you all there.

I will be there all day on Friday and will be available if needed.
