Memorial service Saturday, April 7!

All,

A grave marker dedication ceremony is planned for one of Michael Moore's ancestors, and he would like to get an idea of how many reenactors are planning to attend. I believe Mike has discussed the event with everyone on the "To" list, but others are welcome to attend as well.

Date: Saturday, April 7th (Easter weekend)
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Joel Denny Family Cemetery, Burge Rd., Surry Co., NC (near Pilot Mountain)
Directions: From intersection of US Hwy 52 and NC Hwy 268 in Pilot Mt. (exit #134), go west on NC Hwy 268 for 1.5 miles and turn left on Burge Rd. Follow Burge Rd. for .9 miles to the cemetery on the left. It is surrounded by a 4 ft chain link fence with an unlocked gate and is located close to the road.

More information (coordinates, map, photo) is available at, http://cemeterycensus.com/nc/surr/cem132.htm

Ancestor
Azariah Denny
b. 8 Apr 1844 - d. 6 Jun 1864
Died at Battle of Cold Harbor
Pvt., 21st NC Troops, Co. C

We will be installing a Southern Cross of Honor, and perform some general cemetery maintenance, on the Friday afternoon preceding the dedication. A military marker is pre-existing.

Thanks for your support,
Jeff

Re: Memorial service Saturday, April 7!

For those that can attend, plan on arriving by around 2:15 pm if you can. That should give us enough time for weapons inspection and getting organized.

Thanks, and look forward to seeing y'all!

Re: Memorial service Saturday, April 7!

I think we have several folks from Yadkin going, including Capt. Baucom, "Pvt." Cheek, "Pvt." Myers, Cpl. Hine, Cpl. Reynolds.

I've heard that a certain Pvt. Lopez and Pvt. Lloyd may be there as well.

The big question is "Will Mike M. dress for this one and help with the salute". We may get him on the field yet.

Re: Memorial service Saturday, April 7!

A special thanks to all the reenactors that attended and helped to make the ceremony such a great success! It couldn't of happened without the support of these fine men and women.

Members of the 28th NC Troops: Capt. Baucom, Cpl. Hine, Cpl. Reynolds, "Pvt." Cheek, "Pvt." Myers, Pvt. Rosco Lloyd, Pvt. Donald Lloyd and Mrs. Andrea Moore

Members of the 38th NC Troops: Capt. Siemers, "Pvt." Roberts and Pvt. Royal

Members of the 21st NC Troops: Pvt. Lopez, and Mrs. Inaze Lopez

Sincerly,
Michael Moore

P.S. Photos of the ceremony to follow soon.
