Disabled Access to a shower
My wife is disabled both her knees have worn away the cartliges to extent that when she stands its a bone on bone situation..and cannot walk without severe pain, and cannot get into the bath at all, She needs to have a shower fitted so she can sit and bathe. Social Services have offered her a bathboard but this is really of no use as she cannot lift her legs more than 15cm even then the pain is acute. Social Sevices will not help ... what can I do ? where can I turn for assistance. |

Hi Bob Sorry to hear Social Services are offering no help, it sounds like your wife could benifit from a wet room where she can wheel directly into the shower by means of a shower chair. You could put your case (And its a strong one) to a local charity (or two) but in the meantime I would suggest you write a strong letter of complaint to you local MP (or better still ring him) Yes this does work, SHOUT more Bob and you shall receive! Hi, sorry to hear Social Services have only offered a bathboard. I would ask for a reassessment - make sure it is done by an OT not a support worker if possible. Try to speak to the OT service manager first and submit a complain to the Social Services and your M.P. - they have to respond to complaints. Can you see if you are entitled to a Disabled Facilities Grant? An OT assessment is normally required. If all esle fails you could enquire about the Houseproud scheme http://www.lbwf.gov.uk/index/housing/privatehousing/housepround.htm Call free on 0800 783 7569 and receive a HouseProud information pack and video. Hope this helps. |
