Esprit and its first Sportive
Took my recently built Esprit on its first Sportive today (Squires and Spires- Northamptonshire) and it certainly delivered the goods (along with a compact chainset and an 11-28 cassette and some light wheels) to give me my best ever average speed of 19.2 mph on 80 mile route (previous best Sportive average 17.3) and a totally unexpected 17th place out of 209 riders. I did luckily get in with a good group and the compact plus an 11-28 got a few comments, but I'm not for the macho thing of 12-25 on a 53-39 as pushing hard up hills on a snaller procket is not good for my sciatica. I think I saw a couple of other Enigmas coming into the car park as I was just about set off. Next one is Wyre Forest Stinger-- a lot more climbing and more miles, but looking forward to it |

I'm ordering my Esprit from Mark. He's been absolutely brilliant over providing guidance and help in deciding exactly what I need for the new machine. I just can't wait to get out and ride it. Might even see you up on the Stinger - working out the logistics for the ride.

Keep in touch if you are doing The Wyre Forest Stinger (or the Ryedale Rumble in July), along with any other Enigma riders--we could get our own group going! |
