Copper Grease?
There was a recent thread on bikeradar.com which claimed that using copper grease with alloy components in a Ti frame is a bad idea. The author claimed that using copper grease on a bottom bracket inserted into a Ti frame would lead to rapid corrosion. I always thought that copper grease was THE thing to use when inserting alloy (and all other materials) components into a Ti frame. So I'd be interested to hear the offcial line on this from enigma. Hi We recommend copperslip grease when mating titanium to titanium, such as using a titanium seat post in a titanium frame, ti prep is also good but far more expensive. We are also about to trial C-1200 ceramic grease which sounds better still. I have used copperslip grease for as many years as I can remember, never for bearings of course. In the thousands of bikes/frames I have built, never in one single instance have I seen any form of corrosion caused by copperslip grease. Copper grease is widely known for its anti-seize properties, this is just my own personal opinion though, one I stand by through experience. Best Regards Mark |
