Re-positioning bottle cage

Hi,
Question for Mark, I am an original old-skool Omega Alchemy owner and there's one thing about my frame that's always bothered me and that is that the seatpost bottle cage mounts appear to be drilled much too low. Therefore my cage almost touches the downtube and the bottle does touch the downtube. It's a medium frame btw. Is it possible to re-drill this and fillin/smooth out the old drillings?
Ta,
Phil

Re: Re-positioning bottle cage

Hi Phil

Sorry to hear that.

It would be very easy to add another boss. Does the frame have welded or riveted bottle bosses on the seat tube?

Best regards

Cheers for the sppedy reply! They look to be welded on afterwards rather than punched in, if that's what you mean.

Hi Phil

Then the answer is yes, we should be able to fill in the old hole for you and add a new boss higher up.

Re: Re-positioning bottle cage

Hi Mark,
would this be a relatively quick job, i.e. while-u-wait on a pre-arranged day or would I have to leave the bike with you for a while? I assume you're busy in the coming days as well with the bike show?

Re: Re-positioning bottle cage

Hi Phil

Its not something we could do while you wait, we'd need the frame for 2/3 days. we are run off our feet at the moment but could do the work after the London show if that helps.

Re: Re-positioning bottle cage

On a similar topic, could you add on a brake mount (for converting a frame to cross purposes)?

Hi

We could add brake mounts, no problem at all. Canti bosses and hanger?

Re: Re-positioning bottle cage

I've thought about this more seriously and decided that I really ought to convert the old frame to a cross type frame.

Is there any way of opening up the stays of an Omega Helix to accept knobly tyres?

If all this is possible, what sort of price are we talking about?

Hi

How much extra clearance would you need to have? I guess also the brake bridge will need moving?

Best regards

Re: Re-positioning bottle cage

I'll bring it over when I come down to pick up the new bike! End of January right?

Did you manage to get a photo of the new bike?
