Weren't those young dancers fantastic? I wish I could have done that at their age! All in all, it was a good night, with pretty good music (cheers to Ian for playing my request even though he didn't like it much himself). I did enjoy myself and I had some nice dances. It was good to see so many people at the Earl Haig, including quite a few from Ian and Rachel's classes. There was one thing that dampened my enjoyment somewhat, though. The number of people who had no floorcraft, no awareness of those around them, surprised me. When the dance floor is crowded you expect the occasional bump, and you just apologise and carry on, but on Friday night there were some people who cut right into our dance space, almost pushing us off the floor in the process, and some who not only bumped into me, but did so repeatedly and without even acknowledging that I was there. One guy actually bumped into me three times during one track, but that didn't stop him encroaching on my space (this was when the floor was comparatively empty, during the last-but-one track, and when we started dancing we were in a fairly large, clear space). i don't know if anyone reading this forum was one of the "guilty" parties, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let's all try to be aware of others around us on the dance floor, and avoid them. If you bump into people, apologise and move away from them a bit if you can. That will make life a lot more pleasant when the dance floor is busy. (This isn'tjust a beginners' problem -- I don't think everyone who was a menace on the floor was a beginner.) Jax & Mark, is there any chance you could go over the basics of floorcraft and general awareness on the dance floor in class some time? Cheers. Please don't think I'm just being a moany sod, as I did enjoy the night, but an improvement in general awareness on the dance floor would have made it even better. |

Good point made by Barry - unfortunately this can be a problem wherever you dance. Its more to do with the type off dancer someone is than the amount of floor space there is available.!! What we can do is to emphasies some dance points the class before each freestyle dance and see if that helps. Thanks to everyone for their support and for making it such a good night. Jax |
